Food safety is of paramount importance in food processing. Growing concerns with chemical use on products is supporting the need for alternative antimicrobial technologies. Reducing pathogens and other microbial counts on food surfaces improves the quality and shelf life of food products.
Ozone has been approved by the USDA FSIS and validated by the University of Wisconsin as a post-lethality treatment for Listeria monocytogenes on RTE meat products. Amfil’s ozone technology provides a proven, low cost antimicrobial option for RTE meat that allows processors to progress from Alternative III to the Alternative II classification, or from Alternative II to I when a validated L. monocytogenes growth suppressant is utilized. And, unlike chemicals such as lactic acid, ozone requires no special package labeling.
Ozone RTE Treatment Benefits:
- Up to 100% reduction in antimicrobial chemical
- FDA and USDA approved for contact on all meat and poultry products
- Can be used with log washers, sausage trees, etc. prior to packaging
- Can be used continuously for surface sanitation of slicers, conveyor belts, and as a final rinse during plant sanitation
